Controlling Your Roller Window Shades

How you control your roller shades depends on the option you choose. To roll the fabric up or down from the top of your window, you can:

  • Pull the cord: The classic and straightforward method for manual operation involves manually pulling the cord.
  • Use the wand: This manual control alternative often provides a smoother operation.
  • Push the button: For motorized shades, this offers convenient control at the touch of a button.

Choosing the Best Fabric for Your Needs

We offer two primary fabric styles:

  • Light filtering fabric: This fabric allows light to filter through while still allowing natural light to enter the space. The amount of light that filters through depends upon the weave and the color you choose. This creates a soft light behind the roller shades, perfect if you want privacy in your living area without sacrificing natural light.
  • Room darkening fabric: This type of fabric allows little to no natural light to pass through when the shade is fully lowered. It is best suited for bedrooms, media rooms or any space where daylight needs to be blocked during daytime hours. If you require a complete blackout, we can install side channel framing to eliminate any gaps between the edge of the shade and the side of the window frame. Less light transfer can also help keep rooms cooler in the summer.

Customization Options for Window Roller Shades

Customizing your roller shades lets you create a design that suits your interior design, reflects your style and fits your lifestyle needs. Some options include:

  • Decorative valances and headrails: These components hide the roller tube, helping your roller shades blend seamlessly into the space.
  • Side channel framing: This option allows for additional light blocking, ideal for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.
  • Custom printed graphics: Printed graphics take your roller shades from subtle accessories to eye-catching conversation pieces.
  • Motorization: If you have windows that are difficult to access or prefer the option of easily operating your roller shades remotely with a hand-held controller or from a wall switch, motorized roller shades are a great option.
